How to Determine If Windows XP Is a 32 Bit or 64 Bit Operating System

1. Click the "Start" button (lower left corner of the desktop).

2. Select "Control Panel" and then click "System and Maintenance." Select "System."

3. Read the data listed under the "System Information" of your operating system. Look for the words "System Type" and then look to the right of this to see whether your system is a 32-bit or a 64-bit system.
