How to Bathe a Mini Pinscher

The miniature pinscher, or min pin, has a coat that is composed of short, smooth hair. It is simple to groom these smaller dogs, and often they can be wiped down with a damp cloth. Then there are times that your miniature pinscher will get into a mud puddle or other situation that requires a bath. Bathing your miniature pinscher should only be done when absolutely necessary, as these smaller dogs can easily catch a chill because of their slight stature and weight.

Instructions

    • 1

Trim out any mud or other sticky substances that may be caught in the dog's coat with a small pair of cuticle scissors.

    • 2

Place a drop of mineral oil into each of the dog's eyes. This will protect the eyes from any soap.

    • 3

Place cotton balls into the ears. This will protect the dog's inner ear canals from water.

    • 4

Fill a bathtub until it is at the level of the dog's knees. The water temperature should be around 102°F, which is a dog's body temperature.

    • 5

Place the dog into the bathtub.

    • 6

Pour water over its back until the coat is completely soaked.

    • 7

Apply dog shampoo to the dog's back and rub it into the entire coat for about 10 minutes. Be careful not to get any soap into the dog's mouth or eyes.

    • 8

Wash its face, in between the toes and on the nails with a washcloth that has been soaked in the bath water.

    • 9

Drain the tub of all the water.

    • 10

Rinse all the soap and water off the dog's body.

    • 11

Repeat the rinsing process a second time.

    • 12

Remove the cotton balls from the dog's ears and towel dry it thoroughly.

    • 13

Place your dog in a warm area to air dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure that all the dog shampoo is rinsed off, because shampoo residue can result in an allergic reaction.
