Instructions

Wash your face. Acne is caused by excess oil, dirt and bacteria clogging your pores. To prevent those pores from getting clogged, you need to keep them clean. However, that doesn't mean going overboard in washing your face. Use a mild cleanser that won't irritate your skin, and limit your face washing to twice a day. If you wash too much, it will dry out your skin, causing your body to produce more oil, which can lead to more acne.

Keep your hands away from your face. Your hands carry a lot of bacteria, even if you just washed your hands. Bacteria can get trapped in pores and cause acne. Even touching your acne and then touching an area unaffected by acne can cause the acne to spread to the unaffected area. Definitely do not pick at your acne; it can cause scarring and will cause the acne to spread.

Ice your acne. Putting ice on your acne will cause any bumps to shrink and take out the redness caused by inflammation. It will also help to minimize your pores, which can help prevent clogging. After washing your face or taking a shower in the morning, place a clean washcloth on top of an ice pack, and press it on your acne. When you begin to feel the cold, hold for an additional 10 seconds, remove and apply to a different area.

Use a face mask. Make a mask consisting of 1 tbsp. of honey and 1 tsp. of ground cinnamon. Apply to your acne, and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Apply the face mask daily until your acne has subsided to prevent scarring.

Drink water. Water helps keep your body and your skin hydrated. Hydrated skin doesn't require excess oil production (which can lead to acne). Drink eight to 10 glasses of water a day.
