How to clean a heating blanket

Washing a heating blanket in a washing machine may damage the electrical coils inside the blanket. It's always best to check the tag that comes with the blanket for the manufacturer's instructions or contact them via their website.   • Utility sink or large bucket
  • Mild detergent
  • Cold water
  • Clothesline
  • Clothespins

      Remove all electrical controls from the blanket.

      Fill the bucket or utility sink with cold water and some detergent that is made for delicates.

      Submerge your blanket and soak it for five minutes, swishing it around gently with your hands. If there are any easy-to-remove stains on the blanket, use your fingers to try to gently rub the stain off. Don't twist the blanket.

      Drain the water and gently press out the remaining water without wringing the blanket.

      Hang by one edge from a clothesline and fasten with clothespins. Leave hanging until it is 100 percent dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't fold the blanket over the clothesline. It could damage the coils, the blanket won't dry as quickly and the clothesline will leave a crease.

  • Never dry clean a heating blanket, because the chemicals can damage the insulation and start a fire. To avoid damaging the coils, never wring or twist the blanket
