How to Create Your Own Character Mage

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a popular role-playing game that places the player in control of a character in a mystical realm full of man, beasts and demons. The game features the ability to choose the style of play a great deal through the use of character classes, with each class being better suited for certain aspects of play than for others. One classic role-playing character is the mage, who relies on magic as opposed to physical strength. While there is no actual class labeled "mage," you can create your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a gender for your character. Female characters have a slight advantage as mages at the beginning of the game. However, a male character will overcome this disadvantage over the course of the game, so a male can still be a stellar mage.

    • 2

Choose a race for your mage. Altmer suffer from a weakness to elemental magic attacks, but they can also receive a boost to their base magical attributes. The Breton is another strong race for use as a mage, as they are resistant to magic. However, they do not receive as powerful offensive boosts as the Altmer.

Choose a birth sign for your mage. The Apprentice is the most volatile choice, offering a large boost to magic abilities but suffers from a weakness to magic attacks. The Atronach provides the unique ability to earn "magicka" by absorbing otherwise damaging spells. However, they do not naturally regenerate magicka as other signs do, making them difficult to play in the early stages when potions to restore magicka are more difficult to afford.

Create a custom class, rather than playing a predetermined class that the game creates for you, choosing Intelligence and Willpower as your character's favorite attributes.

    • 5

Select robes for your character's clothing while playing, as this is best suited for staying light and being able to enchant with defensive magic. Equip a dagger or mace as your character's primary weapon, should you need to rely on close-quarters combat.
