Instructions

  1. Ink

    • 1

Spray bug spray onto a rag. Wipe the bug spray directly onto the ink stain.

    • 2

Use rubbing alcohol if the ink stain does not come off with the bug spray. Apply some rubbing alcohol to a rag and scrub the ink stain until it has lifted.

    • 3

Run the dry cycle with a load of damp towels and rags. Soak the rags in bleach if there is still any trace of the ink stain in the dryer. The combination of the bleach and the towels tumbling around will remove any trace of the ink.

    Lipstick

    • 4

Wipe away as much of the lipstick as possible using a dry terry cloth. This is easiest to do while the dryer is still warm and the lipstick is softened.

    • 5

Allow the dryer to cool down completely. Apply rubbing alcohol to a terry cloth and wipe down the inside of the dryer where the lipstick stain is located. Add some bleach to the terry cloth if the stain is stubborn and does not come off with the alcohol alone.

    • 6

Run a load of damp towels and rags through the dry cycle. This will pick up any residue from the lipstick that may be left in the dryer.

    Crayon

    • 7

Scrape off any crayon chunks with a plastic spatula. A plastic credit card also works well for scraping.

    • 8

Apply WD-40 to an old rag. Rub the crayon stain briskly with the rag.

    • 9

Wipe down the dryer drum with a rag and soapy water. Go over the drum with a rag and plain water.

    • 10

Place a load of old towels and rags into the dryer to remove any residue from the crayon and/or WD-40. Run a complete dry cycle.

    Gum or Candy

    • 11

Scrape off the gum or candy while it is soft. Use a plastic spatula or credit card to remove as much of the gum or candy as possible. If the gum or candy has already hardened onto the dryer drum, soften it by applying heat from a blow dryer.

    • 12

Apply an all-purpose cleaner to a rag. Scrub the stained area briskly with the rag and cleaning solution.

    • 13

Rinse the stained area with a rag and plain water. Run a load of old towels through the dry cycle to remove any residue.

    Dye

    • 14

Wipe down the inside of the dryer with dryer sheets dampened with water. Wipe the whole drum, not just the dye stained area. Traces of dye may be on the dryer drum that are not clearly visible.

    • 15

Continue wiping down the dryer drum, use a clean dryer sheet when one gets full of the dye. Wipe the drum with the dryer sheets until no more dye is transferred to the dryer sheets.

    • 16

Wipe down the dryer with a rag and soapy water. Follow up with a rag and plain water to remove the soap.

    • 17

Run a load of old towels through the dry cycle to remove any remaining dye and/or residue from the dryer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never spray the cleaning solution you are using directly into the dryer. This can cause damage to the dryer and also poses a fire hazard.

  • Unplug the dryer from the wall prior to cleaning.

  • Leave the dryer door open after cleaning with any type of cleaning product other than just plain or soapy water. Do not use the dryer for several hours so that the fumes and/or cleaning residue can dissipate. Do not run your "test" load of old towels immediately following cleaning.
