How to Dance in the Game Spore

"Spore" is an evolution simulation game created by Will Wright through Electronic Arts. In the game, you begin as a microscopic organism struggling to survive against competing life forms. Eating meat or plant particles grants you DNA points that you can spend to evolve cilia, mouths, flagellae, or defenses. Eventually your organism will evolve legs and leave the sea. On land you must either hunt other species to extinction or impress them with your talents. If you're not properly evolved, however, you may end up bringing singing talents to a dance-off.

Instructions

  1. Dance, Dance, Evolution

    • 1

Accrue DNA points by finding fossils near your first nest. They will appear as bones sticking out of the ground, with golden sparkles to mark them for you. Click on them and your Spore organism will approach the bones and dig them up. You will gain a new evolution part and some DNA points.

    • 2

Press "Backspace" or click on the "Mating Call" button to call out to your nest mates. Head back to the nest and click on the nest-mate that has little hearts hovering over it. Your Spore organism will do a little mating ritual and leave behind an egg. You will then be taken to the Creature Editor.

    • 3

Click on the "Feet" tab on the upper left of the editor to display foot parts. Click on a foot to see it's attributes. Different feet will provide different skills, such as Jump or Charge. Find a foot that has the Dance attribute. Drag it to your Spore organism's feet and it will replace the current feet with the new ones. The editor will also refund the DNA point cost of the old feet.

    Shake What Darwin Gave You

    • 4

Exit the "Creature Editor." Your Spore organism will hatch from an egg as a young creature. An adult creature will be standing near you and will prompt you to mimic it's actions. Activate whatever skill it performs by pressing the appropriate icons in your skill bar (remember to switch between offensive and social actions by pressing "Tab"). Once you've mimicked all of its skills, you will grow to adult size and be allowed to leave the nest.

    • 5

Leave the nest and find the nest of another species. They are marked on your mini-map as little egg mounds. Approach a non-hostile creature (be wary of predators that growl at you).

    • 6

Press "Tab" to set your organism to the Social stance (all social actions will be green, as opposed to red). Hover your mouse pointer over the creature and the pointer should be replaced by a green word balloon. Click on the creature.

    • 7

If the creature begins to dance around and stomp its feet on the ground, press your own dance key (appears as little paw prints with dotted lines around them), to show off your moves. If your dance level is high enough to fill the social bar, you will have impressed this creature.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dig up fossilized bones and impress, or hunt, Alpha creatures to unlock new parts with higher levels of Dance. You will usually find higher-level versions of the parts that you are currently equipped with before finding other parts.

  • If another creature is growling at you, or if they have an angry red face next to their name, you might want to flee. Such creatures are hostile and will be more interested in eating you than dancing.
