How to Convert BMP to ICO File
Files with the extensions BMP and ICO are both bitmap images---but two very different types. BMP files, generally called bitmaps, are raw, uncompressed images, often used in programs such as Microsoft Paint. Icon files (ICOs), on the other hand, are usually only used for program or website icon images---and indeed are nearly the only filetype that can be used in such a way. Needless to say, being able to convert an image from one type to the other can prove very useful. And luckily, such conversion can be done in only a few minutes, using free online services.
