How to Remove OnStar
OnStar's services can prove very useful for car owners, providing invaluable security and diagnostic features. But using OnStar costs money; and if you choose not to continue the service, why keep the equipment? While it's unlikely that they would do so, OnStar is still capable of tracking you by GPS, watching you on camera and controlling various aspects of your car---as long as you still have the OnStar equipment installed and connected. However, removing the OnStar module from your car is easy to do.

1
Open your trunk. Remove the tub cover from the middle of the trunk floor and set it aside.
-
2
Remove the trunk sill plate. This is the plastic trim along the lower rear edge of the trunk. Unscrew the four cargo-net connectors closest to the door of the trunk. Two of these are set in the trunk's floor, and two hold the sill plate on. Carefully pull the plate upward to remove it.

-
3
Unscrew the two remaining connectors on the right side of the trunk. Grab hold of the edge of the right-side panel and pull it loose, lifting it carefully to clear the connector studs.
-
4
Disconnect the OnStar box which is located behind the right-side panel. Having pulled the panel loose, you should now be able to access it. Unplug the three connectors on the lower forward side of the OnStar box to disable it. If you wish, you can unscrew and discard the entire box as an added precaution.

5
Replace the side panel and sill plate, and screw all connectors back in.
