Obtain a sound card capable of outputting 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound if your computer is otherwise incapable. Test this by looking at the connections for audio cables on the back of your PC. Computers that can produce 5.1 and 7.1 sound will have four audio inputs--three for the speakers and one for the microphone. If your computer does not have that, purchase a new sound card. Consider a "Sound Blaster" model from Creative, linked below.

Install the sound card in your computer. Remove the side of the case by removing the two screws on the right side of the rear of your case and sliding the side back and off. Plug the sound card into an available PCI slot. A PCI slot is a horizontally aligned slot located on the bottom half of your motherboard. Simply insert the card in (it will only go in one way) and screw it into position with the attached screw.

Connect the speakers to your computer using a set of male/male 1/8" jack speaker cables, available at your local electronics store or online. Reboot the computer to complete the installation process. Your computer will auto-detect the new output device and you can begin enjoying vastly improved sound quality.
