How to Remove the Fuel Filter on My Murray Riding Mower

The Murray company produces a wide range of lawn mowers, from walk-behind to riding and everywhere in between, but like any vehicle, all of their mowers require regular maintenance. In fact, because lawn mowers sit for long periods of time, they may need even more. One of those items is replacing the fuel filter, which will help prolong the life of the engine, as well as improve the performance of the motor.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the engine compartment on the lawn mower to reveal the engine of the vehicle. Locate the fuel filter, which is at the top of the engine, located on a rubber hose running between the carburetor and the fuel tank.

    • 2

Clamp the line running from the gas tank to the fuel filter using fuel line pliers.

    • 3

Use the pliers to pull off the hose clamps on the ends of the fuel filter. Typically, these clamps are held in place using a spring-style clamp, but sometimes, they're held in place with a hose clamp that can be loosened with a flathead screwdriver.

    • 4

Pull the fuel filter out of the hoses using your hands. Insert the replacement fuel filter inline in the same place as the stock filter was, making sure that the arrow on the fuel filter is pointing towards the carburetor, and away from the gas tank.

Reinstall the clamps onto the ends of the fuel filter using either the pliers of the flathead screwdriver. Shut the engine cover.
