Block Someone on Your Facebook Account

Occasionally, you may prefer that a specific individual not be able to see what you post on Facebook. You'd rather they couldn't view and download your photos or comment on your posts. Whether the person is an ex-boyfriend, current boss or your mom, you can block the individual from seeing the activity on your Facebook profile. Facebook does not notify the individual of the block, but he may notice your name missing from his friend list.

Things You'll Need

  • The person's e-mail address or name with which they signed up for Facebook.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign in to your Facebook account.

    • 2

Click on the "Account" menu in the upper right corner of your Facebook page. Click on "Privacy Settings" in the drop-down menu.

    • 3

Scroll to the bottom of the page and select "Manage Block Lists."

    • 4

Enter the name or email address of the individual you wish to block in the boxes next to "Block users." Immediately, the blocked individual cannot see your profile, photos or comments. He cannot locate you in a search.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also go to the individual's Facebook profile. Go to the bottom of the left panel and click on "Report/Block" link. Fill in the information as prompted in the pop-up screen.

  • Your friends control who they share their information with, so if they have photos of you or you comment on their status posts, the blocked individual can see the information if he is also a friend of your friend. Additionally, blocking does not apply to apps or groups, so if you and the blocked friend play the same game or belong to the same group page, you may run across one another.
