How to Cook a New York Strip Steak Without a Grill

New York strip steaks tend to be one of the more tender cut of steaks. This is because it comes from the muscle of the cow that doesn't do as much work. A popular way of cooking a New York strip steak is to grill it. This isn't very practical during winter months. A great alternative way to cook your New York strip steak is to pan fry it. Things You'll Need

  • 2 12-14 oz. New York strip steaks
  • 2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp. crushed garlic
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • Plate
  • Plastic wrap
  • Pan

Instructions

      Mix one tbsp. of extra virgin olive oil with the crushed garlic and onion powder. This is your marinade for your New York strip steaks.

      Place your steaks on a plate and pour the marinade over them. Flip the steaks so the marinade gets on both sides. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for an hour.

      Remove the steaks from the refrigerator and allow them to reach room temperature before cooking.

      Place your pan on the stove and set the heat to medium-high. Pour one tbsp. of extra virgin olive oil in the pan. Wait for the oil to heat up.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a more well done steak, cook an additional two minutes on each side.

  • A pan fried New York strip steak goes great with homemade onion rings.

  • Do not allow children or pets in the kitchen when you are cooking the steaks. The oil can get hot and pop out of the pan.
