How to Add a Link to Microsoft 2007 PowerPoint

Adding a link to a Microsoft 2007 PowerPoint slide can be done in one of two ways. Either the address can be typed directly into a text box or you can insert the link by using the icon menus available in the PowerPoint program. Either method is considered simple, and neither one will take longer than 60 seconds.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Microsoft PowerPoint document you are working on.

    • 2

Click on the slide you need to add the link to. If you haven't already done so, insert a text box onto your slide by clicking on the "Insert" tab. Click on the "Text Box" icon located approximately in the middle of the icon choices at the top of the screen. Click the mouse on the slide where you want the text box to appear and drag across the slide until your text box is a sufficient size. Then let go of the mouse button.

    • 3

Position the cursor in the text box where you want the link to appear and click. Click on the "Insert" tab located in choices across the top of the screen. Choose the "Hyperlink" icon in the middle of the icon choices located in the upper middle of the page. This causes another window to appear.

    • 4

Type the text you want to appear as the link in the box at the top of this new window. Type the full link of the website address, including the "http://," in the window at the bottom section. The software may populate the last website you visited automatically. You can continue typing the correct website address to replace anything the software might populate automatically.

    • 5

Click the "OK" button when you are finished. PowerPoint will insert the link into your slide.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can adjust size and font of the link by clicking on the "Home" tab and using the font and paragraph buttons to choose the type of font and size you need. You can also add the hyperlink to the slide by simply typing the full web site address with or without the "http://," directly into the text box. With this method, you are not able to choose wording other than the website address.

  • Save your work from time to time to avoid losing your work. If you do not type the "http://" in the bottom section of the "Hyperlink" icon choice, the link may not work properly. If you are typing the website address directly into the text box and do not include "www." before the rest of the address, the link will not appear in the PowerPoint slide.
