How to Buy a Refurbished Apple Laptop

Due to the relatively high price of Apple laptops compared to typical PCs, many people decide to purchase refurbished Apple laptops in order to save money. Buying a refurbished Apple from an unofficial retailer is an option, but you are very unlikely to find a retailer who will provide the same service guarantees that Apple provides directly. It may surprise you to find out that Apple sells refurbished units directly from the Apple Store online; the section is rather hidden on the website.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a Web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Safari, and navigate to the Apple Store Refurbished section. (You'll find a link to it in the References section below). As you will see on the site, all refurbished units come with a standard one-year service plan, and you can also purchase an extended Apple Care Protection Plan at the standard rate.

    • 2

Click on "Refurbished Mac" in the middle of the page, or on the Blue iMac icon directly to its right, to proceed to the product listings.

    • 3

Read through the Refurbished listings and select which Apple laptop you wish to purchase. The listings on this page change on a regular basis, but you should be able to find both the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro listed frequently. Inspect the system configurations and decide which model is best for you. Depending on the original retail price of the item, expect to save between $100 and $500.

    • 4

Click the gray "Select" button corresponding to the Apple laptop you wish to purchase. You will be brought to a page displaying the full laptop description. Click the green "Add to Cart" button in the upper-right corner to continue with the sale.

    • 5

Select "Check Out Now" on the right side of the page. Choose your shipping options and enter your payment information, and then confirm the sale. A refurbished Apple laptop is now on its way!

Tips & Warnings

  • While it is highly recommended that you purchase Apple laptops directly from Apple, you may be able to save more by purchasing from another reseller. Carefully weigh the importance of price versus quality assurance before purchasing any computer. You will find a link to an alternative Apple reseller in the Resources section below.
