How to Take Albuterol in Bodybuilding
Exercise-related lung spasms in people suffering from asthma can make exercise a frightening experience. For this reason, many people with this particular asthmatic condition may avoid strenuous exercise like bodybuilding because of the discomfort that it can cause.
In a study conducted at the School of Medicine at the University of New Mexico and published in the March 2008 issue of Pharmacotherapy, researchers found that albuterol works well to prevent lung spasms during exercise. Albuterol is a prescription inhalant that relaxes the lungs and increases air flow. Because albuterol is a prescription medicine, you need to take it under a doctor's care.

Using Albuterol
-
1
Discuss specific symptoms with your doctor. Clearly explain when your symptoms occur during exercise, what they feel like, how long they last, and how strenuous exercise needs to be before symptoms are triggered. Also let your doctor know about any other health conditions you have and any other medications you're taking, including natural supplements.
-
2
Ask your doctor about albuterol and if it is appropriate for your symptoms. Also discuss other options and if they are better suited to your specific needs.

-
3
Use albuterol as your doctor instructs. To prevent lung spasms during exercise, your doctor will usually prescribe albuterol before beginning your bodybuilding routine. Your doctor may have different instructions for you, though, and you should follow those instructions precisely.
-
4
Take albuterol by placing the inhaler in your mouth after you have exhaled completely. Depress the canister as you breathe in slowly. Hold your breath for 10 seconds and then exhale slowly.
-
5
Exercise as you normally would after taking albuterol. If you notice a change in how well albuterol works to prevent lung spasms, let your doctor know right away. Contact your doctor if you experience chest tightness, anxiety, uneven heart beats, confusion, excessive urination, or severe headaches.
