How to Reload an HP Inkjet Cartridge
Purchasing a new ink cartridge may seem like the right thing to do every time your HP printer runs out of ink. However, cartridges can be very expensive. Your original ink cartridge works just as well as replacement cartridges, and refilling it is much cheaper than buying a new one.

1
Open the printer and locate the ink cartridges. Press the big tab in front of the ink cartridge until the cartridge becomes loose and slowly pull it upward to remove it. To prevent getting ink stains all over your furniture, place the ink cartridge on a piece of wood or a few layers of paper towel. If the ink cartridge is very dirty, wipe it with the napkins.

2
Find the filling hole, which is most likely on the bottom of the cartridge. For sealed filling holes, contact HPs support line, which is 800-474-6836, or go to an HP authorized service center near you for instructions. Open your ink refill kit and take out the syringe. If the ink cartridge is very dry, moisten the needle with water. Slowly push the needle of the syringe into the sponge of the ink cartridge. Do not press down with excessive force or you risk tearing the ink cartridge sponge, which will clog the cartridge.

4
Using very light force, squeeze the syringe bottle to let ink flow into the ink cartridge sponge; do not squeeze too hard or you can make bubbles, which deforms your sponge and causes ink to flow out unevenly. Take your time filling the ink cartridge; stop when you see that it is moist.
-
5
Clean out the filling hole so that no smudges appear on the tissue once you are finished cleaning. If your printer has a sealed filling hole, close it.
-
6
Replace the cartridge into your printer and let the computer recognize the new cartridge. Run "head cleaning," which is a utility that all HP printers support. Print a few pages to check if the ink is flowing properly.

Tips & Warnings
You can buy an ink refill kit on eBay or any decent electronics store that carries printer hardware. However, all you really need is an ink bottle connected to a syringe.
