How to Convert MP3 to WAV Files in Windows Media
You can use Windows Media Player to convert an MP3 file into many other formats including the WAV format, also known as Waveform Audio Format. Since not all media players support an MP3 file format you might find yourself needing to transfer MP3 files in bulk to WAV format. This can be performed using the CD burning and ripping process in the Windows Media Player Ripping and Burning tabs with a blank CD-R or CD-RW.
Things You'll Need
- Windows Media Player software
- MP3 file(s)
- Blank CD-R or CD-RW
- Computer with CD-burning capability
Instructions

1
Open Windows Media Player by clicking on the Windows Media Player icon, either on the desktop or in the Start menu. Navigate to the "Burn" tab on the top panel.
-
2
Insert a blank CD in the CD drive.
-
-
3
Navigate to the MP3 files on your computer or network and drag and drop them into the burn pane in Windows Media Player. Here you can reorganize the files, if you wish.
-
4
Click the "Start Burn" button on the bottom of the pane. Make sure you close out of any open applications other than Windows Media Player, including any web browsers and email hosts. If you do not close out of these, you could end up interrupting the burn process, which can also ruin the disc and result in an incomplete file burn. Do not remove the disc until Windows Media Player alerts you that the disc has reached 100% completion.
-
5
Re-insert the CD if Windows Media Player automatically ejected it after the burn process. Open the "Rip" tab in Windows Media Player.
-
6
Navigate to the "Tools -> Options" tab at in the Windows Media Player toolbar. Specify a folder for Windows Media Player to save the files in and select "WAV" under the "Format" menu. Press "OK" to save your changes.
-
7
Make sure all files are queued for ripping by checking all the check boxes of each file in the "Rip" tab. Press "Start Rip" and make sure all other applications are still closed. Do not run any other applications until Windows Media Player says all files are finished ripping.
-
8
Manually eject the disc. If you used a CD-RW, you can choose to erase it now by right clicking on the disc drive letter in your file explorer and selecting "Erase."

Tips & Warnings
Easydvdburning.com suggests restarting your computer and inserting a new blank CD if the burning process doesn't work for some reason. The same advice applies for DVD burning as it does for CD burning, so similar troubleshooting techniques can be used.
The WAV files created through this process are not the same quality as those ripped straight from the original CD (before the music was ripped to MP3s), as the MP3 format is lossy.
