1
Take a picture of your tile floor and bring it will you when you're out shopping for carpet. This will save you from having to depend on memory alone when matching specific colors.
-
2
Figure out if you want the two floors to match with similar colors, or to complement each other with contrasting colors. A lot of your decision will be influenced by color schemes that already exist on the walls and furniture in your house.

3
Ask for carpet samples for all the colors you are interested in. Any carpet salesperson should be happy to provide samples to a potential customer. Some may even have a book of samples that you can take with you. Take the samples home and test them up against the tile.
-
4
Use a color matcher to make sure the color of your new carpet is actually going to match your tile. An online color matcher is listed here as a Resource.
-
5
Pick a tile edge to transition the tile into the new carpet. A tile edge is a piece of rubber or plastic that runs in between both surfaces, making sure that each surface's edge doesn't get damaged. It can also give you an opportunity to transition the color. For example, if you have white tiles and brown carpeting, you might look for a light-brown tile edge to visually ease the brown into the white.
