How to Mount 24 Inch Rims

Mounting 24-inch rims on your vehicle is a relatively easy way to customize your car. You can find numerous styles of rims that suit your car and your style--anything from brushed aluminum and chrome to painted and powder-coated. Speed shops and aftermarket parts companies, such as Jeg's and TireRack, are prime places to browse for rims and tires. Because price is relative to rim size and finish, prepare to spend around $1,200 or more in addition to the cost of a corresponding set of tires.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before purchasing 24-inch rims, ensure that this size rim will fit your vehicle.

  • After installing 24-inch rims on your vehicle, make sure that the tires do not rub when driving.

  • Be sure to inflate your tires to the proper pressure, based on the the type and model of tire you purchase.

  • When inflating tires on the tire machine, you will hear two loud pops. This is normal; it indicates that the tire beads have been seated properly on the rim.

  • To offset the cost of new rims and tires, you may want to sell your old rims and tires, if they are still useable. However, you may want to keep your old rims and tires for winter use, as snow and salt can damage a chrome finish.

  • While your rims and tires are off of your vehicle, it would be a good time to inspect brakes and other parts normally obscured by the rim and tire.

  • Use extra caution if installing chrome rims, as tire machines may scratch the finish.

  • If you have never operated a tire machine or do not have access to one, have the tires installed at a local tire and wheel shop.
