How to Make Paper Nut Cups

A nut cup is a useful party accessory when you are setting a table. Often, hosts place nuts, candies or treats into decorative nut cups at each guest's place setting as a pretty and tasty addition to a festive table. Instead of using ready-made nut cups that are unimaginative and plain, making your own nut cups out of colorful or distinctive paper can be easy. Adding decorative stickers to them for themed parties such as Mardi Gras or weddings is also common. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a five-inch square out of the colorful paper. Place the paper square in front of you so it looks like a diamond, with the patterned or colored side facing down.

    • 2

Bring the bottom point of the diamond up to the top point of the diamond, making sure you align the points perfectly. Crease this fold so you now have a triangle shape with the folded edge on the bottom.

    • 3

Fold the top point of the triangle (the top paper layer only) down so the left diagonal edge of the triangle is now aligned with the bottom edge of the triangle. Crease this fold well, and then unfold it. Repeat with the right diagonal edge of the triangle. You should now have crease marks forming an "X" on the top of your triangle.

    • 4

Bring the right corner of the triangle over to meet the center of the "X." Crease this fold and leave it folded. Now bring the left corner of the triangle over to meet the center of the "X." Crease this fold and leave it folded.

    • 5

Fold the top triangle point (the top paper layer only) down toward the bottom edge of the triangle. The point of the triangle will extend beyond the bottom edge as you line the fold up with the folds you made in step four.

    • 6

Flip the triangle over, and repeat with the other top triangle point.

    • 7

Open the top of the cup, folding the triangle points over each other on the bottom of the cup. Hold the cup so the bottom is facing up and each of the triangle points are horizontal.

    • 8

Use your thumb and index finger to pinch the top corner and bring it down over the horizontal triangle points. Fold this top corner down over the horizontal triangle points.

    • 9

Flip the cup around so the other point is at the top, and fold this corner down in the same fashion. This will create a flat bottom for the nut cup.

    • 10

Place a decorative sticker or a piece of clear tape over the folds on the bottom of the nut cup to hold the folds in place and secure the bottom of the cup.

    • 11

Flip the cup over and adjust the sides of the cup so they extend straight up. The cup should sit flat with the edges extending straight up. Fill the nut cup with treats.
