How to Choose a Quality Mattress
According to the American Chiropractic Association, surveys have shown that between 40 and 60 percent of the general population has trouble sleeping. This is due in part to having the wrong mattress. A cheap mattress can cause you to toss and turn all night and can leave you feeling tired and un-rested in the morning. Choosing the right mattress is imperative to getting the rest that you need to stay healthy and function at your best. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Take your time and shop around when you are buying a new mattress. Research the benefits of the many types of mattresses and search for the best price.
-
2
Shop at stores that specialize in mattresses. These specialty stores will have the most knowledge in the products they sell and offer higher quality products than a regular retail store
-
-
3
Test the mattresses. Lay down on each mattress that you are considering for at least three to five minutes. Roll over and get into your normal sleep position. If you sleep on your stomach you will want to test the mattress on your stomach. Make sure the mattress works for you before you take it home. Your spine should be supported in order for you to get a good nights sleep.
-
4
Choose a mattress that distributes your body's weight evenly. If you feel any part of your body sagging then you need a firmer mattress. There should also be no gaps between your body and the mattress, such as the small of your back.
-
5
Look at the number of coils the mattress has. You can find this information on the label or ask your salesman. The higher the number of coils the mattress has the higher the quality it will be.
-
6
Select a mattress that has thick padding. Padding is more expensive to add so the more padding it has the better the quality. Pillow-top mattresses are expensive and offer more comfort than regular mattresses.
-
7
Look for consistent stitching on the mattress. Examine the quilting that holds the fabric to the mattress. There should be no unbroken and uneven stitches.
-
8
Purchase a two to three inch mattress pad if you decide that your mattress is too firm. You can find a mattress pad at most major department stores and mattress and bedding stores.
