How to Delete Windows Update Downloads

Windows updates include drivers, software applications and security tools which improve your computer's performance. Your compute downloads and installs them from the Microsoft server. However, some of these updates can interfere with certain programs and cause errors. You can remove the updates quickly and easily using Windows uninstallation tools. Whether you are using Windows XP, Vista or 7, uninstall the updates you do not want.

Instructions

  1. Windows XP Users

      Click the Windows "Start" menu and click the "Control Panel."

      Double-click "Add or Remove Programs" to launch the programs management console. Click "Show Update" check-box on the top. You should see a list of the downloaded updates on your computer.

      Scroll through, click the update you want to delete, and click "Remove." Click "OK" to confirm and uninstall the update from your computer. Repeat this same process to uninstall additional update downloads.

    Windows Vista and 7 Users

      Click "Programs and Features" to launch the programs management console. Click the "View installed updates" check-box.

      Scroll through the programs console and click the update you want to remove. Click "Uninstall" and click "OK" to confirm and uninstall it from your computer. Repeat this same process to uninstall additional updates.

Tips & Warnings

  • Microsoft does not recommend uninstalling updates from your computer because they contain vital system files which improve security and performance.
