How to Fix HP Printing Problems
Hewlett Packard has long been a popular choice for home use and office printers, and HP laserjet, deskjet and photo printers are widely used throughout the world. With the right care and maintenance these printers can provide many years of trouble-free service, but it is important for printer owners to know what to do when something goes wrong. 1
Check the paper path to determine where your printer is jamming. Printer jams can be frustrating, and the first course of action when they occur should be to determine where the paper is jamming. If paper is jamming as it exits the tray, chances are the rollers have worn smooth and will need to be replaced. If the paper is jamming on the left side of the printer, the fuser may need to be reseated. If the jam occurs on the right side, the toner cartridge may not be installed properly.

2
Check the level of your toner cartridge or inkjet cartridge if the print quality is poor. While you should receive a pop-up message or a control panel message when the level of ink is low, this may not always occur. If the print appears to be faded, it is a good idea to install a new toner cartridge if you have a laser printer or a new print cartridge if you have an inkjet or photo printer.

Change the fuser cartridge if the print is rubbing off the paper. The fuser is what makes the print stick to the paper, and if that fuser is bad the print will not adhere properly. To replace the fuser cartridge, pull open the left door, flip down the clips that hold the fuser in place, pull the cartridge out and replace it with a new unit.
