How to Convert QuickTime Movies to DivX
QuickTime videos are used offline as well as online but are not as popular as the DivX video format is for watching movies on computers. A QuickTime movie can be converted using the QuickTime Pro program, which runs identically on Mac and PCs. QuickTime Pro creates the most compatible DivX video file from a QuickTime movie because it is used to make QuickTime movies in the first place. The DivX video file that is converted from the QuickTime movie will be compatible with all video programs that can play the DivX video format.

Download and install the Mac or Windows version of the DivX software to let the computer's operating system read DivX video files (see link in Resources below). Restart the computer after the installation has been completed.

Go to the Apple website and download the Windows or Macintosh version of the free QuickTime Player program (see link in Resources). Run the installation of the QuickTime Player program after it has downloaded to the computer's hard drive. Follow the prompts to install it to the computer's hard drive.

Go back to the Apple website and buy the QuickTime Pro registration code. Use a pencil to write the registration code down on a pad of paper.

Run the QuickTime Player program. Go to "File" and "Registration" and enter in the registration code you had written down in the blank column next to the "Registration code" tab in the window that appears. Write your name into the "Registered To" blank column. Press the small red button at the extreme upper left of the window to close the window. Quit the QuickTime Player program by going to "File" and selecting "Quit QuickTime Player" from the drop-down menu.

Run QuickTime Player again to see that it has now been changed into QuickTime Pro. Drag the QuickTime movie from the computer's hard drive into the QuickTime Pro icon, which is either in the dock on the left or bottom of the screen or on the computer's desktop. The QuickTime movie will now load into QuickTime Pro.

Go to "File" and select "Export" from the drop-down menu. Select "Movie to DivX" from the drop-down menu next to the "Export" tab in the window that has appeared. Select "Default Settings" from the drop down menu next to the "Use" tab. Click on the "Options" button to bring up a new window.

Name the DivX file that you are going to convert from the QuickTime movie into the blank column at the top of the window next to "Save As." Click on the "Make a high quality file" button near the middle of the window. Click on the "OK" button at the lower right side to close the window.

Click on the "Save" button at the lower right side of the window to save the DivX video file that you have converted from the QuickTime movie. Quit QuickTime Pro once the DivX video file has been saved.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure you are installing the most recent version of the DivX software to the computer's operating system.
Never run other video player or video-editing program while converting video files in QuickTime Pro.
