How to Attach Pictures to Greeting Cards

Homemade greeting cards are a creative way to add your own personal style to your holiday greetings, birthday wishes and congratulatory acknowledgments. Attaching photos or other types of pictures onto your greeting cards is one of the many ways you can personalize them. Use the proper technique to attach a photo or other picture to a greeting card to ensure that the picture or photo stays on the card and does not become damaged.

Things You'll Need:

  • Paintbrush
  • Ruler
  • Dry Towel
  • Photo-Safe Glue
  • Utility Knife

Removable Photos

Lay your card in front of you on a flat surface and place the photo on the spot where you want it to attach onto the card.

Hold the photo in place and use your utility knife to make indented points in the card. Place the indents about 1/4 inch away from the photo corner flush with the horizontal and vertical edges of the photo.

Remove your photo from the card. Make 4 diagonal slits in the card for each corner of the photo to slide into. To do this, use a ruler to draw a line between the two indents at each corner then cut along the line.

Place the photo on the card and tuck the corners into the slits you created.

Glued Photos

Purchase acid-free photo glue from your local craft supply store. Look in the scrapbooking aisle near the photo supplies.

Apply some photo glue onto the back of your photo or other picture, spreading it evenly with a paintbrush.

Place the photo or other picture carefully onto the card and smooth it gently with a clean, dry cloth.

Wipe any excess glue from the sides of the photo.
