How to Use Built in Memory for XBox 360 Arcade
Since its initial launch in November 2005, the Xbox 360 has undergone a few important changes. Thus, each console type has varying memory specifications, despite all falling under the same general name. No matter the console, however, saving to the internal memory will make starting and stopping games easier and allow you to save high game scores.
If your XBox 360 Arcade console was purchased prior to fall 2008, you will have a 256 MB memory card to save your games. Consoles purchased before summer 2009 will have 256 MB internal memory, and those purchased after summer 2009 will have 512 MB internal memory.
If you own an Xbox 360 Pro or Elite, your console already comes with a hard drive (either 60 or 120 GB) and does not come equipped with internal memory.

Saving to Internal Memory

1
Start your game as you normally would by inserting the game disc in the disc drive. Once the game's introduction scene shows up, press "Start," and the game console will automatically prompt you to choose between one of two storage locations.
-
2
Select the internal memory (either 256 MB or 512 MB, depending on your console), as opposed to the hard drive. The game you are currently playing will now be saved to the internal memory of the Xbox.

Once the internal memory is selected by pressing the "A" button, the game will resume normally. There are periodic checkpoints built into most XBox 360 games that will save your progress automatically.

Tips & Warnings
Like the data stored to the hard drive, the information in the internal memory can be deleted and/or copied at any time via the Xbox 360 dashboard menu.
Use the internal memory sparingly and only for low-memory saves, as the internal memory has less space than the hard drive.
Do not disconnect the power to your Xbox while it is saving to either the hard drive or the internal memory. This can cause device malfunction issues and/or loss of game save data.
