How to Play Free Demo Games

Game developers are releasing new games virtually every day of the week. You might have to rely on the developer's description to decide whether or not to spend your money on any particular game. However, game demos help you avoid that dilemma. By downloading and play-testing a game demo, you can try any game for an hour, playing all of the options of a full game within the time limit. The demo then gives you a chance to buy the game if you like it and want to continue playing.

Instructions

    • 1

Log onto one of the large game demo sites such as Big Fish Games, Yahoo! Games or Gamehouse. There are dozens of similar sites on the Web, but these are three very reliable sources.

    • 2

Sign up at the site to enable downloading. Most sites only require a user name and an email address. You may have to check your email for an activation code. Use the code to log onto the site.

    • 3

Search the site for games you want to try. Most sites have games separated into many different categories. You may want to look for new games, board games, hidden object games or puzzles. Read the description of each game that looks interesting.

    • 4

Go to the download page of any game that you wish to try. Click on the "Download" button. The game download should begin immediately. Most game demos only take a minute or two to download and most will put an icon directly onto your desktop.

    • 5

Close the game site when you are done downloading all of your game demos. A game will generally run faster if it is the only thing open on your desktop.

    • 6

Click on the desktop icon for the game you wish to play. Many games will ask you for a name, but this is only for record-keeping purposes in case more than one player wants to use the same game. Your game will now play in normal mode.

    • 7

Play your game for an hour. You may want to play from start to finish, or you may want to skip any story background scenes so you will have more time for gameplay. At the end of the hour the game will shut down and a screen will appear offering you the game for purchase.

Tips & Warnings

  • Delete any game demos that you have finished, if you don't want to purchase the game. Expired game demos can take up a lot of room on your hard drive.
