How to Create Your Own Spa Gift Certificate
Spa owners can benefit from using gift certificates in their business. They can use the certificates as promotional items that are given away for various events or special affairs, sell them to their clients and give them out as gifts. All you need to make them is a desktop publishing program like Microsoft Publisher, plus some nice, fancy paper to print them out on.
Instructions
-
-
1
Open Microsoft Publisher. Select ""Gift Certificate" in the Microsoft Publisher Catalog using the Publishing Wizard.
-
2
Go through the available templates and find something suitable. It does not have to be a perfect match since changes can be made later.
-
-
3
Click on "Start Wizard" to begin. Check the right side of the window to see the template. This will change as you make your selections.
-
4
Choose a color scheme if you do not like the default colors. Pick colors that match your spa's colors or that reflect an upcoming holiday, such as red for Valentine's Day, pastels for Easter or green for St. Patrick's Day.
-
5
Decide if you want to print one gift certificate in the center of a page or several on it. Choose the second option (several tiled on the page) to fit more on a sheet, saving time and money.
-
6
Put a check next to the specific "Personal Information" you need on the certificate, such as "Primary" or "Secondary" business.
-
7
Insert the information needed, such as name, address and phone number. Change any previous inserted information by clicking on "Update".
-
8
Click on "Finish." Return to any of the previously selected layout details by clicking on it from the list on the left in the Wizard.
-
9
Alter the certificate's appearance if needed. You can also use your mouse to select any parts of it and move them around.
-
10
Fill in any details needed, such as expiration dates or special instructions. Important details to add (if they are not already on the template) include an expiration date of no more than one year from the issue date, whether it can be used with any other offers, and the following two statements concerning its value: "Not redeemable for cash" and "Redemption value not to exceed $XX", which is whatever cap you want to place on the certificates.
-
11
Select and delete any areas in the layout that are not required.
-
12
Add additional text using the text frame tool to make a text box. Type in the text desired.
-
13
Insert a picture with the picture frame tool or graphics using the clip art tool. Use your spa logo here, if you have one.
-
14
Look over the certificate and make any needed adjustments. Run a spell check by clicking on "Tools" and then "Spelling" and then "Check Spelling". Print one copy onto regular paper.
-
15
Check the gift certificate over and verify that the dates and other information is correct. Look at the overall appearance, check the alignment and make any required adjustments.
-
16
Load the printer with your chosen paper and print your certificates as needed.

Tips & Warnings
Use your own graphics or pictures to personalize the certificates to your specific spa. If you have a logo or other graphic associated with your business, use it.
Go online to Microsoft Office Online to find templates. There are many for other Microsoft Office programs, such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, that can be used in place of Publisher. Check the templates' program versions and make sure they match or they may not open.
You can find graphics and pictures at Microsoft Office Online.
Save a copy of the final certificate so you can print more at a later date.
