How to Make a Cheap Cat Cage
Buying a commercial cat carrier can be pricey, especially if you only plan on using it once or twice. Not to worry: making a cat carrier can be easy and cheap.
Things You'll Need
- 2 small rectangular laundry baskets of the same shape and size
- Thin wire hanger
- Wire cutters
- Pliers
- Electrical tape
- Yarn or twine
- A blanket or towel
- Favorite small toy
Instructions
-
-
1
Fold the towel or blanket and use it to line the bottom of one laundry basket.
-
2
Tie twine or yarn around the small toy and hang it from the top of the other laundry basket so that it dangles on the inside toward the front edge.
-
-
3
Cut three 3-inch pieces of wire with the wire cutters and wrap electrical tape around the ends to soften any sharp edges.
-
4
Set the basket with the top upside down over the basket with the blanket and use the pliers to connect them with the wire at the short edge away from the toy, creating a "hinge" at the back of the carrier. If you would like to be able to take the carrier apart and use the laundry baskets for other purposes, you can tie the baskets together at the back edge with twine or yarn instead.
-
5
Place your cat in the basket with the blanket and close the two baskets again. Tie off the front edge with twine or yarn.

Tips & Warnings
Try setting out the basket with the towel or blanket it in several days before your trip to give your pet a chance to get used to it.
Be careful carrying your pet in this carrier. If you use large baskets, the cage can be unwieldy.
