How to Install a Watch Battery
The wrist with a manual winding mechanism has been around since the 1600s. The advent of the battery powered watch in the late 1950s meant you didn't have to wind your watch daily to keep the correct time. Most watch batteries will last a year or more, but when your watch stops keeping the correct time or stops working altogether, it is time to install a new battery. Does this Spark an idea?

Place the watch face down on a soft cloth laid out on a firm work surface.

3
Work the knife into the groove and twist it slightly to pop the back cover off of the watch.

Tips & Warnings
Some batteries are held in by clips. Once the back cover has been removed, remove the clip with small needle nose pliers. Use a jewelers screw driver if the clip is screwed in.
Invest in a jewelers press (available at jewelers), if you change many watch batteries. The press allows you to attach the back cover onto the watch quickly, without any damage.
