Make sure your skin is smooth and clean. Before your spray tan appointment, shower and then exfoliate the dead skin cells off your body with a loofah. With the dead skin cells out of the way, the spray tan will adhere to the newest skin cells and your tan will last longer.

Avoid applying any lotion or makeup before having a spray tan applied. Lotions containing mineral oil will prevent the spray tan from sticking to your skin and can cause the tan to look blotchy. Some makeup also contains ingredients that will block the spray tan.

Keep your skin dry for at least four hours; stay away from water and do not apply lotion. The ingredients in the spray tan will need at least four hours to develop on your skin.
