Determine the type of replacement spike to be used on the shoe. Spikes are available in different lengths depending on the type and condition of the surface on which the game will be played. For example, longer spikes are typically used when playing on a wet or muddy surface. Shorter spikes are used for normal playing conditions or modern artificial turf fields.

Use the spike wrench that is included with the Nike shoes. The wrench is used to loosen and tighten the spikes and features indentations that mate with indentations on the spikes themselves.

Place the wrench onto the spike to be replaced and turn the wrench to the left, or counterclockwise, to loosen. Once loosened, continue to unscrew the old or worn spike until it is completely removed.

Thread the replacement spike into the screw hole by turning to the right, or clockwise. Hand tighten the spike against the bottom of the shoe. Repeat the procedure for all of the spikes on the shoe.

Use the wrench to securely tighten down the spikes against the shoe. Turn the wrench clockwise with sufficient pressure to tighten the spike completely.

Tips & Warnings
Change all of the spikes on the shoe at the same time so that proper traction is maintained.
Failure to securely tighten the spikes may result in them coming loose, potentially causing injury.
