How to Use the Web to Text Someone With Verizon

There are two ways to send a text message from the Internet. One way is to send it from a website, and another is to use e-mail. Both are free for the sender but will count towards the recipient's monthly received text message limit, if applicable.

Instructions

  1. Send Using Website

    • 1

Visit a website that lets you send text messages to Verizon customers. You can do this at the Verizon website or a third party website that provides this service.

    • 2

Type a phone number into the "Send To:" field. Some websites let you send the same message to more than one number at the same time. Include the area code as well as the main phone number.

    • 3

Type in your own phone number and your name, or your e-mail address. If you are not using the Verizon website, choose Verizon from the carrier list.

    • 4

Enter your message. Text messages are limited to 140 characters, but some websites limit this still further. The website may also provide a way to translate your message into "netspeak," a way to abbreviate commonly used words to use less characters than you would with common English.

    • 5

Send your message. You can choose normal or urgent priority if you send from the Verizon website.

    Send Using E-mail

    • 6

Open a new e-mail message using whatever e-mail client you normally use. This can be on a computer or smart phone.

    • 7

Address the e-mail to the recipient. The e-mail address corresponding to a Verizon wireless customer's cell phone number is the 10-digit cell phone number followed by "@vtext.com." Another option is if your friend has a Vtext user name, you can use the user name followed by "@vtext.com."

    • 8

Type a message in the message portion of the e-mail. Remember that text messages are limited to 140 characters.

    • 9

Send the message as you would a normal e-mail.
