How to Make Washable Sidewalk Paint

When the weather is warm and the kids need outdoor activities, use your own creativity to get them into a creative mode. Most kids love painting and when you make it possible for them to paint large areas outside, they will embrace the idea with energy and gusto. Make up a big batch of paint for sidewalks and driveways that will easily wash off when the day is over.

Things You'll Need

  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 16 drops food coloring (per color)
  • Mixing bowl
  • Small plastic containers (with lids)
  • Paintbrushes
  • Hose

Instructions

    • 1

Measure and combine the water and cornstarch in the mixing bowl. Stir it until the mixture is smooth.

    • 2

Add the food coloring until you achieve the desired color. Stir the food coloring in well.

    • 3

Pour the paint into a plastic container.

    • 4

Repeat Steps 1 through 3 to make a variety of different paint colors. Mix more than one primary color of food coloring to make secondary colors.

    • 5

Store the unused paint in the covered plastic containers. As long as you keep the plastic containers covered tightly, the paint will keep indefinitely. Stir the paint before you use it again. If the paint is too thick, add a small amount of water to reconstitute the paint and make it the same consistency it was originally.
