ACT! is a customer relationship manager that allows a user to keep track of and organize contacts, appointments and notes. It can be shared between multiple users and integrates with other software applications such as Microsoft Word and Outlook. ACT! allows a user to store a digital copy of a contact's business card within the database. Several add-on software applications are available that can automatically import a contact's information into ACT! when the business card is scanned.

Instructions

      Place the business card face down on a flatbed scanner or card scanner. Use the scanner's management utility to scan the business card and save a copy on your computer. Scan at 150 dpi for average quality and good readability. If you need a high quality scan, select 300 dpi. If given the choice, save it in JPEG file format.

      Open ACT! and choose the database where you want to save the the contact's business card and information. Click the "Contact" tab and then "New Contact" to create a blank contact. Alternately, you can select an existing contact if you are updating contact information.

      Click on the "Document" tab and then on "Add Document." Browse to the location where you saved the scanned business card and double click on the business card's image file.

      Copy the contact's information from the business card image into the appropriate fields on the contact details page.

      Save your data and exit ACT!.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are using a 3rd party scanning software which integrates with ACT!, you can select the option to import to ACT! and the utility will automatically add the business card to your ACT! database. If the utility includes Optical Character Recognition technology, it will automatically add the contact details to a new contact in ACT!.
