How to Clean Stainless Steel Without Streaks
Cleaning stainless steel is not usually very difficult, especially when the metal is only dirty with normal household grime (oils, food particles and household dust). Sometimes stainless steel will streak, however, unless you clean using the right products and methods. Streaks on stainless steel make it look dirty, even when it isn't. You do not have to live with streaks--you can easily prevent them on stainless steel sinks, appliances or on any other stainless steel surface. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean off oily deposits, food particles and general dust with a wet soapy sponge (if cleaning appliances, unplug them first). Use regular dish detergent (the liquid kind) and a sponge that is clean and non-abrasive so you don't scratch the steel. In addition, mrscleanusa.com suggests cleaning with the grain of the steel.

Rinse the stainless steel well with warm water to remove detergent residue. If you are cleaning your stainless steel sink, simply run the faucet and wipe the sink down with a wet cloth. If you are cleaning any other stainless steel surface, wipe it down with a wet towel or cloths to rinse it.

Dry it with soft towels or cloths. When the stainless steel is clean and dry, get rid of streaks by using a drop of mineral oil (olive oil also works, according to stainless-online.com) applied to a soft cloth or a paper towel and rubbed over the surface.

Tips & Warnings
If the stainless steel surface is not filthy and you just need to get rid of streaks, try either a glass cleaner (wipe it with paper towels as you would your windows) or a vinegar and water combination (placed half and half in a spray bottle).
Polishing cloths (for dusting or for jewelry) will sometimes remove dirt and streaking with just a bit of water (and no cleaners)--look for these cloths at most large retail stores selling household cleaning supplies.
