How to Transfer 8 GB of Music Without Flash Drives
Digital audio files such as those in MP3, WAV and FLAC format are, like any files, easily transferable from one computer to another using portable flash drives. Sometimes, however, the amount of music to be transferred is too large to be stored on a flash drive. When this happens, you need to use an alternate method of transferring the music files. The easiest methods are burning the files to DVD discs and transferring the files over a network.
Instructions
-
Transferring By Disc in Vista
-
1
Insert a blank CD or DVD into your computer. Select the files you want from your computer in Windows Explorer and then click "Burn" at the top of the Windows Explorer window.
-
2
Enter a name for your disc and select "Next."
-
-
3
Click on "Show formatting options" and select "Mastered." (If you don't select mastered, then your disc will not be finalized and you may not be able to see the files you put on the disc when you are done burning.)
-
4
Click "Burn" in the pop-up window that appears.
-
5
Repeat this process until all of your music files have been copied to discs. If you use DVDs (recommended), you'll need at least two DVDs to burn 8 GB. If you use CDs, then you'll need 12 CDs.
-
6
Insert your first disc into the drive of your second computer. Click and drag the files from the disc onto your drive using Windows Explorer. Repeat this process for all the discs you have burned.
Transferring by Network
-
7
Transfer the files over your network, if your computers are set up for network sharing. Copy or move the music files to a shared folder, such as the Public Music folder.
-
8
On the other computer (the target computer), navigate to the shared folder. Both computers will need to be powered up and connected for this step.
-
9
Select the music files to be transferred, right-click and choose "Cut," then navigate to a local folder on the target computer, right-click and choose "Paste."
