How to Add Soles to Knit Slippers
Adding soles to your hand-knit slippers will prevent holes from wearing through the knitted fabric and will give them traction. Attach soles to newly-knit slippers or add soles to rescue your favorite pair from wearing out. The process is easy and takes just a short amount of time.
Things You'll Need
- Knitted slippers
- Suede slipper soles with pre-punched sewing holes
- Tapestry needle
- Fingering weight yarn
Instructions
-
-
1
Find suede slipper soles in the appropriate size. Choose a sole large enough to comfortably fit your foot. Make sure the knitted slipper bottom fits into the sole.
-
2
Thread a tapestry needle with fingering weight yarn that is the same shade as the yarn you used to knit your slippers. Tie a knot at the end.
-
-
3
Fit the suede sole around your hand-knit slipper.
-
4
Sew through the first pre-punched hole on your suede sole, beginning inside the slipper and sewing out.
-
5
Pull the thread to tighten the stitch and sew back into the knitted slipper, right above the suede sole's edge.
-
6
Sew through the slipper's interior and through the sole's next pre-punched hole.
-
7
Repeat the steps above until you have sewn through all the pre-punched holes and the remaining sewing yarn is inside the knitted slipper.
