How to Mount a Scooter Windshield
Installing a windshield on a scooter is a fairly easy do-it-yourself job that takes at most one hour to perform and starts with buying the right part for your scooter. The addition of a windshield can help block oncoming wind and rain, which can make your scooter ride more enjoyable in inclement weather.
Things You'll Need
- Metric sockets and a socket wrench
- Metric spanners (also known as crescent wrenches)
- A new scooter windshield kit

1
Find a store that carries the specific windshield made for your model scooter. Most scooter stores know which parts fit which models, so they can guide you to the right one in their inventory or help you back-order it if not available.
-
2
Make yourself aware of all the parts involved. Most scooter windshield kits come with three basic component sets: the windshield itself, the arms to hold up the windshield, and the brackets with nuts and bolts to secure the arms to the scooter headset. Spread all the parts out on a clear space so you see each one easily.

Start the installation by clearing the scooter headset of any other attachments. The headset itself is the scooter frame that incorporates the headlight and handlebars. Underneath the headset frame locate threaded holes similar to those thatsecure the mirror brackets to the scooter. The brackets that secure the windshield arms will line up with these holes. You may need to remove the handlebar mirrors temporarily to secure the windshield brackets.

Install the windshield brackets and the mirror brackets and screw them in with the provided bolts. Keep them loose initially so that you can tighten them later after making adjustments. Then slide the windshield arms into the brackets now attached to the headset. Use the remaining brackets and bolts with rubber cushions to attach the windshield. If done right, the windshield should fit over the top of the headset frame just above the headlight.

5
Tighten everything down comfortably. Do not over-tighten the bolts holding onto the windshield or you could crack the windshield plastic. Alternatively, don't over-tighten the bracket bolts into the headset or you could strip the headset. The threads in the headset are aluminum or plastic, which warp easily compared to steel metal bolts.

Tips & Warnings
When the installation is all secure, take your scooter for a short ride. You may need to adjust the windshield to the right position so that it sits comfortably for you in its brackets. Tighten down as needed if something is still loose.
Windshields for scooters are usually made of hard plastic. While they don't usually shatter, they can crack and scratch over time. Take care when putting anything next to the scooter when it is parked. Falling items can cause damage or put a big enough scratch in the windshield that it gets permanently damaged.
The windshield brackets also come loose over time due to the vibrations of the scooter. Occasional tightening will solve this problem. Otherwise the windshield will eventually come loose enough to flop backwards due to wind pressure when driving.
