How to Convert Music From PC to Mac
Migrating your music collection from PC to Mac is usually a fairly simple process, as music files tend to be formatted in pretty much the same way across both platforms. This article will cover the simplest -- and for the majority of users, the cheapest -- method.

Download iTunes

1
Download iTunes from iTunes.com. (If you already use iTunes as your music management program on your PC, you can skip to Step 2 here.) After the installation is completed iTunes will ask you if you want it to search your computer for it to import and convert; allow it to do so. This will move all of your music into a folder called "iTunes Library." The resulting music files will be either AAC or MP3 files, if they weren't already. Both of these files can be played on the iPod and the Mac. On your Mac, make sure that iTunes is properly updated to the latest version.

2
Get either an external hard drive or a USB flash drive. There is no real need to buy to go out and buy a new one, if you already have one that is big enough to hold at least half of your music library.

3
Plug in the storage device to your Windows PC and copy the folder containing your music. By default, this folder should be called "iTunes Library" by default. After this is done, safely remove the drive from your PC and plug it into your Mac.
-
4
Verify that the storage medium is connected to your Mac properly, and copy the folder containing all your music to the folder called "Music" in your Mac.
-
5
Launch iTunes. If you're doing this for the first time it will scan your computer and find the music just like it did in Windows and should find and add all your music to your iTunes library on your Mac. If it doesn't search automatically, then you can import the folder manually by hitting "command" and "O" and selecting the folder. After it finishes copying all of the files, you should be able to play them straight from iTunes on your Mac.

6
Please note that it is now safe to delete the music files from your PC and your removable hard drive or flash drive.
