Things You'll Need
- Self-leveling concrete
- Bucket
- ½-inch heavy duty drill
- Primer
- Push broom
- Concrete spreader
- Steel concrete smoother
Instructions
-
-
1
Clean and dry your painted brick patio thoroughly to remove all debris, such as leaves, sand and other dirt.
-
2
Apply an even layer of primer over the patio, spreading it out with a push broom. Any excess primer should be brushed away.
-
-
3
Follow the manufacturer's directions and allow the primer to dry. Sufficient drying time is generally more than one hour but less than 24 hours.
-
4
Calculate the amount of water you will need for mixing your self-leveling concrete by consulting the package. Pour all of the water, save about 10 percent, into your bucket.
-
5
Combine the dry powdered self-leveling concrete with the water in the bucket, using the drill to mix it thoroughly.
-
6
Add the remaining 10 percent of water to the self-leveling concrete mixture and continue mixing it with the drill for about another two minutes to ensure a very smooth mixture.
-
7
Set the concrete spreader to ¼ inch.
-
8
Slowly pour the self-leveling concrete mixture over your brick patio, using the spreader to smooth it across your work area.
-
9
Smooth the concrete with a steel concrete smoother immediately after pouring it, to reduce pin holes and surface tension.
-
10
Let the self-leveling concrete dry completely. At least four or five hours should pass before allowing any contact with the concrete surface.
