How to Add a Feather to a Flower Hair Clip

There are many charming ways to adorn the hair, and one of the most popular is to use a flower hair clip. Typically consisting of a fabric flower attached to a metal clip, these accessories come in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes, ranging from natural and realistic to fanciful and fun. They lend a fresh, botanical look to any hairstyle. Flower hair clips can be easily embellished with feathers. Instructions

    • 1

Tear a 4 to 6 inch strip of floral tape from the roll. Lightly tug on the tape to activate its adhesive properties.

    • 2

Trim the feather's shaft to a length of about 1 to 2 inches with scissors.

    • 3

Grasp the feather by its freshly cut shaft. Position a 3 to 4 inch piece of floral wire alongside the shaft. Wrap the floral tape around both the shaft and the floral wire. Pull on the tape to make it stick to itself as you wind it around several times.

    • 4

Continue to wrap the tape until you reach the bottom tip of the floral wire.

    • 5

Cover the sharp edge of the wire completely in floral tape. Use scissors to snip off any excess floral tape.

    • 6

Coat the bottom 1 inch section of wrapped wire in hot glue. Insert the glued portion of the wrapped wire into the desired spot on your flower hair clip. Push it into a place where it has something to adhere to, such as between a fabric petal and the metal clip.

    • 7

Hold the feather in place until the hot glue has fully dried.

Tips & Warnings

  • Take advantage of the flexibility provided by the wrapped wire shaft of your feather. Bend the wrapped wire shaft of the feather up, down or side-to-side to give your flower hair clip the look and dimension you desire.

  • Obtain packages of colorful feathers at a craft-supply store.

  • Keep your feather-embellished flower hair clip out of the hot, steamy bathroom, as heat and steam will weaken the glue's hold.

  • Buy floral tape in other colors, such as black, white or brown, to make the wire shaft of the feather coordinate better with your flower hair clip.
