How to Use Clothesline Clips

Clothesline clips are an invention from the 1970s that solved the problem of coat hangers sliding along clotheslines. A clothesline clip is a single bent piece of plastic that clips onto the clothesline. The coat hanger is then strung through two holes and effectively held into place. This allows for delicate clothes to be hung on hangers rather than using clothes clips which may damage the fabric. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wedge the clothesline into the narrow curve of the clip with the long back leg facing away from you. Make sure it is pressed in as tightly as it will go.

    • 2

String the coat hanger's head through the slot on each leg, first through the one in the long back leg, then through the one beneath the clothesline. The end of the coat hanger should face you and be secured at two locations.

    • 3

Gently tug the coat hanger toward you to ensure it is firmly hung and doesn't move. Also tug the hanger's head downward to make sure it's snug.

    • 4

Place your clothes on the coat hanger as normal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure the coat hanger goes through the hole and doesn't rest on top of the clothesline, or the extra pressure may damage the line.
