How to Restore iTunes From Backup Disk

Filling an iPod can take a lot of time and money. iPods come in memory capacities ranging from 2GB to 160GB, depending on the model. If something were to happen to your iTunes library or to your computer, your music and videos could be lost, meaning you'd have to go through the process of reloading your CDs or the expensive task of re-downloading your purchases from the iTunes Store. If you made backup CDs or DVDs of your iTunes library, however, all you have to do insert the backup discs and restore your iPod back to where it was before the problem started.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the iTunes software on your computer.

    • 2

Insert your backup disc into your computer.

    • 3

Click the "Restore" button when you are asked by iTunes. Repeat the process for additional backup discs. Depending on how large your iTunes library is, you may have multiple discs to use to do a complete restore.

Tips & Warnings

  • Backup discs can only be used to restore your library. They cannot be played on CD or DVD players. As you add new songs to your iPod, be sure to burn copies onto backup discs for safe keeping.

  • Backup discs only update what is burned on them. If you consistently add content to iTunes, you will want to backup on a more regular basis.
