How to Change a Password in Internet Options

Web browsers offer a variety of tools to help manage passwords and Firefox's password manager is no exception: it allows you to easily store passwords and delete ones that you no longer use. Changing a password in Firefox requires just a few simple steps.

Instructions

  1. Change a Password in Internet Options

    • 1

      Open Firefox.

    • 2

Click "Tools" in the toolbar on the top of the screen, and click "Options."

    • 3

Click the "Security" tab with the lock icon.

    • 4

Click the "Saved Passwords" button in the "Passwords" section.

    • 5

Click the "Show Passwords" button on the bottom right of the new window.

    • 6

Find the website for the password you wish to change.

    • 7

Note the URL and user name for the website, and delete it from your passwords list using the "Remove" button on the bottom left.

    • 8

Close the "Saved Passwords" window, and navigate to the website.

    • 9

Login as normal. When you sign in, Firefox will ask you if you want to save the password. Click "yes," and you're done changing the password!

Tips & Warnings

  • Sometimes, you can just login to a website with a new password and Firefox will ask if you want to change the stored password. Click "yes," and you won't have to go through the removal steps to change the password.

  • You can set a "Master Password" in the "Options" window, under "Passwords," to ensure that your passwords are secure. Be warned, however, that if you lose the Master Password, you will not be able to view or change the stored passwords.
