Instructions

    • 1

Wipe the area of the stain with a warm, damp cloth. Do not rub or apply any pressure to avoid staining the oak wood more deeply. Dry the area with a clean dry cloth or let it air dry.

    • 2

Use your fingers to spread plain, white toothpaste (not the gel type) in a thin layer over the stain.

    • 3

Let it sit for a couple of minutes until it has dried somewhat.

    • 4

Wet a dish cloth with warm water and some soap. Ring out any excess water.

    • 5

Rub off the toothpaste in the direction of the wood grain. You might need to apply pressure. Continue this until the toothpaste and stain are gone. Wash the area again if you want to remove the minty toothpaste scent.

    • 6

Repeat the process if necessary after the table is dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • This method is good for other surfaces as well, such as doors, walls and wood paneling.

  • Make sure to choose a toothpaste without any abrasives such as sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium benzoate, ethyl paraben or titanium dioxide. Abrasives provide cleaning power, but they can damage your wood.
