1
Sweep the carpet at least once a week. Many vacuum cleaners have a tough time picking up pet hair in the first place, and the more it clumps together, the harder it's going to be to pull it up from the carpet.
-
2
Remove hair from your cloth furniture with the hose attachment on your vacuum cleaner. This may not remove all of the hair, but it will get you off to a good start.

3
Use a lint roller or masking tape to get the rest of the hair off of cloth furniture and other places that your pets frequent. When cleaning pet hair, always think of the places that your pets go that you might not always think of cleaning. For example, if you cat always hides on the ledge behind the curtains, there's probably a lot of hair behind the curtains that can be picked up with a lint roller.

4
Put on a pair of rubber gloves to find hair in places that you might think have already been properly cleaned. Just rub your hands over the couch, chair or carpet, and the rubber on the gloves will help bring more hair to the surface.
-
5
Keep a broom and dustpan handy near any non-carpeted floors. Sweep up any pet hair when you see it, even if it's not a cleaning day.
-
6
Use the long, skinny hose attachment on your vacuum cleaner to reach under spots where you can't see or otherwise reach. Just because you can't see under your oven or refrigerator, that doesn't mean that pet hair isn't continuing to accumulate there.

7
Keep up with your cleaning routine on a regular basis. If you don't let things pile up, it will be a lot less overwhelming when it's time to clean.
