How to Create a Bookmark on a Web Page in MS FrontPage

Microsoft FrontPage is a program that is used to develop web pages and websites that can be viewable on the Internet. No programming knowledge is necessary to use the application. Hyperlinks are clickable text and images that allow a user to navigate throughout a website. A bookmark is a specific section of a web page that is accessed by clicking on a corresponding hyperlink. Bookmarks can be created from text and images.

Instructions

      Launch Microsoft FrontPage by selecting "Microsoft FrontPage" from the "Programs" or "All Programs" menu.

      Click "File" on the menu bar and select "Open Web." Browse to the folder in which the website is located, and click "Open."

      Double-click the web page you want to create the bookmark in to open it. If you want the bookmark created in a new page, click "File" from the menu bar, select "New" and then choose "Page or Web." A blank page will be displayed. Add your content to the page.

      Select the text or image the bookmark is to be created from. Click "Insert" on the menu bar and select "Bookmark." Click in the "Bookmark name:" text box. Type a name of your choice for the bookmark. Click "OK." Bookmarked text will appear with a dotted underline. Images will look no different.

      Select the text or image to be used as the hyperlink to the bookmark. Click "Insert" on the menu bar and select "Hyperlink." Select "Place in This Document" under the "Link to:" heading. Select the appropriate bookmark under the "Select a place in this document:" heading by clicking on it.

      Click "Target Frame" under the "Common targets" heading, and select the appropriate bookmark choice. Select "Same Frame" to remain in the same window when the hyperlink is clicked. Click "OK" to return to the Insert Hyperlink dialog box. Click "OK." Hyperlinked text should appear blue and underlined. Images will appear no different.

      Click "File" on the menu and select "Save" to save the web page. This can also be accomplished by clicking the "Save" button on the toolbar. Click the drop-down arrow next to the "Save in:" heading to select a location for the file. Click in the "File Name:" text box at the bottom. Type a name of your choice. Click "Save."

      Click "File" on the menu bar and select "Preview in Browser" to test the bookmark. Select the browser you wish to use, and click "OK." The page should be displayed in the selected browser.

      Click the newly created hyperlink on the web page to be taken to the corresponding bookmark.

Tips & Warnings

  • Spaces and special characters (*&/?>,etc...) cannot be used as part of the name for a bookmark.

  • Bookmarks can also be created by selecting the text or image in the web page, and while holding down the "Ctrl" key on the keyboard, press the letter "G."

  • If you have a long web page, consider putting a bookmark at the bottom of the web page that will take the user back to the top.
