How to Change the Headlights on a Dodge Ram

In most states, driving your Dodge Ram with a blown headlight will get you ticketed by police, so don't put off fixing the headlight, especially because it's such an easy fix. Changing a Dodge Ram headlight is as simple as replacing a single bulb, rather than the whole headlight as it was on older Dodge Rams. The bulb is accessed through the engine compartment and can be removed and replaced quickly.

Things You'll Need

• New headlight bulb

Instructions

1. Open the hood to access the engine compartment. The headlight assembly is located at the corners of the engine compartment.

2. Locate the headlight wiring harness. The harness will be ran into a plastic assembly.

3. Twist the end of the harness and pull out. This will expose the headlight bulb.

4. Grasp the bulb with your fingers and pull it out of the casing. The bulb will pop straight out.

5. Push the new bulb in to the casing. The bulb will lock in to place.

6. Place the headlamp casing back into the headlight assembly. Push in and twist till it locks.

7. Turn on the headlamps to ensure it functions correctly. Turn your lights to bright to make sure the lights brighten correctly.

8. Close the hood. Turn off the lights.

Tips & Warnings

• Use the reference manual at your local parts store to buy the correct bulb.

• Use caution when working around the engine compartment. Certain components may be hot if the vehicle was just turned off.
